In Bed With Yohan May

Did you know that making your bed each morning is actually “correlated with better productivity, a greater sense of well-being, and stronger skills at sticking with a budget.”? (The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg).

This simple morning routine can even lower your stress levels and improve your mood! (The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin) But how do you create that hotel worthy, Pinterest ready bed fast enough to suit your busy modern life?

Here are our 3 simple tips to get a sleek and stylish boudoir in less than 2-minutes...

I
Shopping

Choose your linens wisely and focus on your thread count – the higher the thread count, the softer the sheet which also means it will wear well and soften over time - opting for a minimum of 300 with 800 being our favourite number. Also – who has time for ironing?! A plump high thread count 100% cotton will usually not require ironing if you shake it out after washing and hang flat to dry. On a larger bed use Superking size pillows and always go for four rather than two to ensure a plush look.

II

Styling

Stack the pillows in pairs and tuck your duvet tightly over your fitted sheet and underneath the edges of the mattress. Your end of bed throw or runner can hang over the sides (but not draped on the floor!), although we always prefer to tuck it in to keep it sleek. Add your personality with four decorative cushions (larger at the back, smaller at the front) or go for two large to keep it simple.

Finishing

Have you heard about "Chopping"? You might have come across super luxe plush cushions with a ‘V’ shape dent in show homes and interior design magazines. This stylist hack makes any bed / sofa / chair look fancy and dressed and it is soooo easy. To achieve this look, hold your straight hand sideways and like you are a Karate Sensei - chop down at the top edge of your cushions. Tug a little on the top two corners to perfect the shape and voila, a magazine worthy bed!

Now go and seize your day!
